Poor weather marred 2013 garage sale

Despite our best efforts to choose a Saturday in May that had good weather, May 11 was cool and overcast.  It did not rain, but the weather kept people away.  Here are the weather forecasts from various services on the Wednesday before that we based our decision on.

It turns out that Environment Canada was the closest to being right.

In addition, many of our garage sale signs were knocked over by construction crews on Trim Road, grass cutting crews on Tenth Line Road, and vandals on Valin.

We will re-examine whether it is worthwhile to have a Fallingbrook community-wide garage sale.  We have been doing so since 1987.

Fallingbrook Annual
Community Garage Sale

Every spring, the Fallingbrook Community Association organizes a community-wide garage sale.  On that day, any family wishing to participate simply holds their own garage sale.  The advantage is that we do the advertising, and there are many, many participants.  People come from far away in order to shop at our garage sale.

To enhance your experience, we suggest that you place posters at the end of your street, advertising your event.  Don't forget to take them down afterwards.  During the week before the event, we place dozens of signs on major roads like Tenth Line, Trim and Innes, to remind everyone that the big event is coming.

Because the weather in May is often rainy, we will announce the date of the garage sale on the Wednesday before the event.  You can either check this web site frequently (and refresh your browser), or look for our signs on major roads, or subscribe to our email notification list.

Garage Sale was on Saturday May 11, 2013

In the event of rain, try putting out your stuff on Sunday.  Use your judgment, as we cannot coordinate a rain date with so many  people.  You are free to extend your event to Sunday in any case, because it's your garage sale.

After the event, please don't forget to remove any signs that you may have put up on street corners.
