Neighborhood Watch

Denise Chadala is the coordinator for the Neighborhood Watch program in Fallingbrook. Ken Menzies is the coordinator for all of Orleans. Denise is trying to get the Watch program going again in Fallingbrook. This month Ken is working on getting Queenswood Heights up and running. Success for this program depends upon the Community

Councilor Kreling

Regular meetings will continue until October some time. November 10th is the date for the Municipal elections. Presently Councilor Kreling is dealing with questions from residents on the traffic issues surrounding the two new ice surfaces. The residents on Boittriell and Merkley appear to be split. The biggest problem seems to be the residents speeding on those streets. Presently about one third of the traffic on the extension is going to Ray Friel. If the extension were closed, traffic would increase substantially on Boittriell. Green space will be depleted with the addition of the two ice surfaces, and some beautification will be done.

Don provided a report on Canada Day. Most of the expenses/bills are in. David provided the bill for the truck rental on Tedís credit card. Entertainment expenses were higher this year. We will either break even or be slightly ahead. The treasurer's report was accepted on a motion by Don and seconded by Brenda.

Canada Day/

Petrie Island

It was another successful year! David circulated the album of photos from Canada Day.

The negatives were given to George earlier for safekeeping. David will give both George and Marc the picture CDís. David discussed the possibility of operating the fireworks and having Homiuk back next year, being in mind both construction and the size of the two new ice surfaces. David will investigate with the City and Serco.

Water quality at Petrie was good all summer. There were only three times when the Beach would have been closed. This was the last year for the Trillium grant. Presently, they have a CD show with a laptop and projector available to show the scenes from Petrie.

Don has done manual paste-ups for the last ten years. Our Printer would like us to provide an electronic copy for him in the future. Don has since purchased a hard drive and has been given the software. Don will be receiving instruction on how to use the new software. Don is aiming at a newsletter for mid October, which could include the municipal elections. Don asked Penny for pictures of the rink expansion for the newsletter. David suggested that we could use a student volunteer to scan the old newsletters and put them on the web-site.

Open Discussion

Suzanne Sanford will try to attend some of the FCA meetings. Suzanne is the Community Recreation Liaison Officer for the City. Suzanne works with both Dan Brisebois and Dan Chenier. Suzanneís office is at Centrum.
